City of Gainesville Residents!

Yesterday was good and yesterday was bad. Let’s start with the good. We are fortunate to have a business friendly candidate, Nathan Skop, still in the running who has a chance to win in a run-off election February 28. It is imperative for our city’s economic health to have more commissioners that want to see private enterprise grow in the city of Gainesville. Nathan Skop is also well equipped to fight the biomass debacle that is threatening to bankrupt our county in the next decade. It is certain that businesses that lack public funding will not thrive, or possibly not even survive, if the costs of doing business in our county are so onerous that they fade away, leaving Gainesville with no services or tax base. There is no question that only publicly funded enterprises are the goal of the current commission but there is also no doubt that an economic situation of relying solely on government funding for our citizens is a mistake with disastrous consequences.
Now let’s get to the bad. In these critical political times only a very small percentage of registered voters bothered to vote at all. As usual a city election elicited very little participation – but these are not business as usual times. Our entire economic welfare is at stake. For those citizens who believe that we are crying wolf when we state that the money is drying up time will be our proof. Just where do you think tax money to support all these government enterprises comes from? And just what makes you think it will never end? I am one citizen who is not willing to take that chance and YOU SHOULDN’T BE EITHER!! 2012 can be the start of a new economic era for our city of Gainesville but citizens who subscribe to free markets need to vote to make that happen. If you can’t make it to the polls on election day get an absentee ballot! Talk to your friends and neighbors! We can get Nathan Skop elected! Todd Chase endorses him and he needs help! Now get out there and do it!

Nanny Government: UNSUSTAINABLE!

“By spring, anyone caught driving the streets of Paris without a breathalyzer in the car will face a stiff fine. President Nicolas Sarkozy added this device to the list of gadgets every Frenchman must carry under penalty of law – equipment that already includes a high-visibility fluorescent jacket and warning triangle. Europe is bankrupt precisely because its governments insist on coming up with ever-crazier regulations.”
Maybe posting this isn’t such a great idea – NTSB already wants to outlaw phones! And the high speed rail debacle in California? How about a trolley and rapid transit busses in Alachua County and Gainesville? Sound familiar?? How much do you want to pay for fiscal insanity and control of your every movement? Because the cost is going to be really, REALLY high! Oh, yeah – that pesky Constitution continues to insist on individual liberty. What a bother!

Repost of yesterdays Email- Thanks to everyone who attended our general meeting on Saturday. I want to also thank you for your donations as it paid for the room. About 3/4 of you participated in our Rep Presidential Primary Straw Poll and the results are as follows-
Newt Gingrich won with 52%
Ron Paul- 27%
Rick Santorum- 12%
Mitt Romney- 09%
Ken Hazen, the speaker for Big Voices Media (BVM) was gratefull for your
attendance and your interest. As promised, I will describe below how to check
your internet speed to ensure that you are able to maximize what BVM has to offer.
Open the link below and you will go to the SPEAK EASY web site.
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
Once you are there, click on the ATLANTA or NEW YORK button. After a few seconds it will show you what your DOWNLOAD and UPLOAD speeds are. To take advantage of the high definition and video streaming that BVM has to offer your DOWNLOAD speed should be faster that 1.8 mbps (1.8 mega bits per second). The telephone provider I have at my house in the country side is Windstream which only offers 1.0 mbps. I will sign up with BVM and will let you know if I encounter any problems with a slower connection. I also have a smart phone with 3G speed and will let you know how it compares.
Stay tuned for more updates.
Thanks,

Attend This Saturday’s Monthly Meeting To Learn About A New Media Platform-
No longer will the only reporting available be what is spoon fed to the public through a filter controlled by the mainstream media and elite paid political consultants from both parties, all deciding what they want the public to hear. The voices “of the people, by the people, and for the people” will be heard through B!G Voices Media, our media.
Big Voices Media’s, Ken Hazen, will give a presentation about the new platform, a la Glenn Beck, and answer any questions you may have. This could be just the tool we have all been waiting on. Imagine, not having to relying on the liberal media or on WordpRess, Facebook or YouTube censoring our information. Might we even end up with a GTP channel?????
So attend our monthly meeting this Saturday Jan 21st at 10AM and bring a friend and family member. We look forward to seeing you there!

“You’re NOT Alone”

Tea Party came to be three years ago so patriots could find one another and work together to change our country back to the principles of the Constitution. Our own James Sharp reminds us that you are NOT alone!
“You’re NOT Alone!” by James M. Sharp
Do you shake your head in amazement every time you hear news reports that indicate that President Obama’s approval ratings are somewhere near fifty percent? Do you find yourself asking, “Exactly WHO are these fifty percent?” If so, you’re not alone.
If you curse each time you fill the tank on your car as you pay somewhere around $3.50 per gallon remembering that, when Obama was inaugurated, you were paying less than two dollars, you’re not alone.
If you find yourself disgusted nearly every single visit to the grocery store as you see a steady increase in price or decrease in package size (or both) of most of the products that you buy every day, you’re not alone.
If you’ve seen the value of your home continue to fall – even though the housing crisis supposedly took place several years ago, you’re not alone. If you’ve been responsibly making your house payment while some people are receiving government-mandated loan modifications, you’re not alone.
If you’re sick and tired of seeing the US Justice Department shooting down state legislatures’ attempts to protect their citizens from illegal aliens, you’re not alone. If you find yourself wondering how Eric Holder can still have a job in the wake of the “Fast & Furious” scandal, you’re not alone.
If you are outraged at the thought of South Carolina fighting a federal government that attempted to prevent Boeing Corporation from opening an aircraft plant in that state, you’re not alone.
Do you find yourself in utter amazement at governmental spending programs use your hard-earned dollars for such insane items as treadmills for shrimp? Do you find it reprehensible that the executives of Solyndra got away with pilfering a half billion dollars of your money with no one being held accountable? And where did that $800 billion stimulus go. Did you stop to wonder why the unemployment rate has averaged over nine percent since Obama was inaugurated in spite of all of that money being spent? Well, my friend, you’re not alone.
Have you grown discouraged by the fact that you go to work – or, if you’re retired, went to work – day in and day out only to watch your elected officials give YOUR money to people that, for whatever reason, will not do for themselves? Have you paused to count the number of governmental programs that are in place to “help the less-fortunate”? Have you wondered why, in spite of all of those programs, there are still poor people? If so, you’re not alone.
Take heart in the fact that you’re not alone. The election of 2012 is going to go down in history as a turning point in American history.
Will you go to the polls in November to vote out of office the commander-in-chief that has presided over the most prolonged period of high unemployment since the Great Depression? The president that has managed, with a complicit Congress, in just three years, to amass a debt that eclipses the total combined debt of all of the presidents from Washington through George H.W. Bush?
If so, you’re DEFINITELY not alone!

Commission Support of GRU Biomass Corrupt
January 3, 2012 by Laurie Newsom
Filed under Hot Topics, Local Info
A rather lengthy but excellent account of the arrogance and dishonesty of the Gainesville city commissioners that support the biomass plant, presented by Ray Washington, City of Gainesville commission candidate for District 1. Read it in its entirety and watch the video. This is the same city commission that wants to control all of Alachua County using GRU.
“Seven citizens of Gainesville, on April 6, finally succeeded in having previously secret details of the GRU-GREC contract made public, in settlement of public interest litigation that had been opposed by the Gainesville City Commission and GRU. As a result of the release of these details, many members of the public learned for the first time that the GRU-GREC contract did not contain a back out clause that commissioners had promised and that would have allowed the city to back out of the deal if GRU’s rosy financial predictions turned out to be wrong. Those rosy predictions have turned out to be very wrong”.
“From May through June Gainesville citizens appeared at every single regularly scheduled city commission meeting asking more and more questions about the GRU-GREC biomass deal. But not a single citizen question was answered, or even acknowledged to have been asked.”

Beware of Home-Grown “Smart Growth” Activism
December 6, 2011 by Laurie Newsom
Filed under Environment, Hot Topics, Local Info
We can be successful in revoking the stifling regulations that are keeping our community from being prosperous. Citizens need to BE INVOLVED and make sure the right candidates are elected to local office. Gov Rick Scott has paved the way for our local government to reduce and repeal the burdensome land use and environmental restrictions currently keeping business from developing here.
“Radical environmentalists, local business groups, and the ever-present Not in My Backyard crowd have been trying for decades to reshape American communities to conform to their preferred “smart growth” policies. These advocates work to impose land use regulations that would force Americans into denser living arrangements, curtail freedom of choice in housing, discriminate against lower-income Americans, and compel people to pay more for their houses and give up their cars in favor of subways, trolleys, buses, and bicycles.”
“In recent years, however, many smart-growth opponents working at the local level have shifted their focus toward opposing the 1992 United Nations voluntary initiative called Agenda 21, which advocates many policies that reflect smart-growth principles. They should recognize that Agenda 21 is simply another facet of smart growth and not allow it to divert them from opposing the more ubiquitous, overarching agenda of homegrown environmental extremists.”
“Opponents of these policies have been very effective in their work. A good example is the state of Florida, where Governor Rick Scott (R) and the state legislature repealed a 25-year-old smart-growth law a few months ago.[12]”

We are fortunate to have several fiscally conservative candidates running for two commission seats – District 1 and an “at-large” seat. These seats are non-partisan. (NOTE: ALL residents of Gainesville can vote for the “at-large” seat but only residents of District 1 can vote for the District 1 seat.) For the complete list of candidates please go to http://elections.alachua.fl.us/index.php?id=77&spanish=N. We will also be posting responses to our questionnaire for the candidates by mid-December. You deserve to be well informed about the candidates!
WHEN: Thursday, January12, 2012 @ 7:00 PM
WHERE: Paramount Plaza Hotel, 2900 SW 13th Street, Gainesville.
Please plan to attend and hear what the candidates have to say about all the issues! Fiscal conservatism is imperative if we are to have a prosperous community. It is also very important for citizens that live outside the city limits of Gainesville to become involved with this election by lending their support with their wallets or by working in the campaigns.
