Of Condoms and Coppertone, or Maternity and Melanoma

Much energy has been expended in the past few weeks regarding the Obama/Sebelius mandate that religious groups cover the full cost of contraceptives.

The administration came out with their version of “compromise” allowing the religious groups themselves exemption, but mandating that their insurers cover the cost. Great example of Democrats’ “compromise.”

Any opposition to the mandate by Republicans was met as usual with the Democrat response of “Another Republican war on women.”

It seems that to NOT require a religious group to pay for a product or service that violates their sacred beliefs denies an employee the freedom to procure the product or service herself. This has been portrayed as an attack on women’s health.

Contraceptives, from condoms to ortho-novum, are used to prevent a medical condition – maternity.

Maternal Mortality rates range from 2,000 per 100,000 pregnancies in Siera Leone to zero per 100,000 in Ireland. According to the WHO, the U.S. comes in around #3 with 11 per 100,000 pregnancies. 1/100 of 1% of those women who become pregnant die as a direct or indirect result of the pregnancy.

The primary mortality factor is complications from abortion, an irony that Democrats never seem to mention. At any rate, to force women who work for religious organizations to pay for their own contraceptives or go without violates the fraudulently famous “Separation of Church and State” which we all know is Paragraph 1, Section 1 of our Constitution.

Having never actually FOUND the text itself, I guess that separation goes only in one direction.

If failure to require employers/insurers to fully pay for condoms for women is a war against women, should employers/insurers not ALSO be required to fully pay for Coppertone and Ray-Bans?

Melanoma is the #1 cancer risk in the U.S., and fair-skinned groups the most at risk. Of the fair-skinned groups, the mortality rate for men is twice that for women. Have the Democrats declared war on men? Specifically white men?

The incidence and mortality climbed for melanoma in the 1973-1994 period with an increase of 26% for men, 22% for women. From 1990-1994 the increase for men was 6.8%, while women actually had a decrease of 1.3%.

But insurance coverage for Coppertone and sunglasses is completely ABSENT from the Democrats’ health plan. I see no explanation other than the fact that Democrats want to eliminate men, especially fair-skinned men.

Looking around Washington, it appears they have at least emasculated them.

Next: Poor dental health kills more people than pregnancy, yet toothpaste and floss are ALSO absent from the democrats’ health care plan. The reason?

  1. I am here still scratching my head trying to figure out how to squeeze condoms and pregnancy in Sierra Leone with the agenda of the Tea Party. Were we hijacked or what?

I am really looking forward to the next one in which dental health kills more people than pregnancy. What should we expect here the promotion of fluoride in our drinking water?

If you have lived as long as I have you realize that the game being played by those (the left) who want total power and all people on their “plantation” is (a) keep the people busy with ridiculous issues each of which reduces freedom, and (b) keep the people busy with paperwork and paying taxes. Then there is not time to study and get involved as a responsible citizen. To solve this problem we must (a) get control of the purse strings via replacing all Federal Taxes with a single consumption tax (e.g. FairTax) and (b) make Congress/Senate part time jobs by limiting all emoluments to those of the average citizen. No retirement plan, no gymnasium, no pay above the 67 percentile of all citizens, etc, etc.

PS The “ridiculous issues” (like choice, immigration, child’s lunch, etc. etc.) are solved automatically when the power is moved back to the people in the 50 states. Issues are made by government to gain power and control.

PSS The FairTax will correct all issues related to (i) balance of payment, and (ii) US businesses moving off-shore, while (1) helping poorer workers gain wealth, and (2) incentivizing more foreign production in the USA.

  3. Paula Helton says:

    Bill,

I agree with you on the Fair Tax and absolutely making Congress a part time job, cutting their pay and taking away their perks. If you look at the actual time they are in session, they are already part time. Rick Perry, for all his faults, had the right idea on that one.

The one thing I disagree on is immigration as a silly issue. Illegal immigration costs us billions annually, not to mention their voting in our elections. I do, however, agree it should be left to the states to write and enforce their laws regarding illegal immigration.

  4. Alan Berkelhammer says:

Make no mistake, The issue here is not about contraception, it’s about our liberty. We must not lose sight of the forest while staring blindly at the trees. If you give up just one liberty to government, even if it’s not your own, there will be no stopping it. I may be Jewish, but we’re ALL Catholics now!

Rep Paul Ryan said it very well on Meet The Press this past Sunday:

“What we’re getting from the White House on this conscience issue, it’s not an issue about contraception, it’s an issue that reveals a political philosophy the president is showing that basically treats our constitutional rights as if they were revocable privileges from our government, not inalienable rights from our creator.” said Ryan on NBC’s Meet the Press.

  5. Bill Boykin says:

Both of you, Paula & Alan, are so right.

I should correct the immigration point. It is a very important issue for many reasons not the least of which is stolen elections. It should not be an issue — what is not understood about the word “illegal”? As money stops flowing from government to the supporters of illegal aliens there will be greater pressures on those states and cities that support amnesty. It will take time. My approach is to go after the roots to kill the “weeds”.

Yes, we are all Catholics and Jews (in similar Jewish battles for life and liberty).

  6. Seriously, if we are going to talk about liberty why we don’t instead of starting the conversation with the irrelevance of condoms in Sierra Leone begin by mentioning the National Defense Authorization Act? We could use our platform in the Tea Party to begin a motion like the state of Tennessee has and others are planning.

Perhaps we should follow the state of Virginia’s example by nullifying it.
“Already, Virginia Delegate Bob Marshall, R-Manassas, has introduced HB1160, which would prevent “any agency, political subdivision, employee, or member of the military of Virginia from assisting an agency or the armed forces of the United States in the investigation, prosecution, or detainment of a United States citizen in violation of the Constitution of Virginia.”

This is what real patriots do and this is what the Tea Party should do instead of being stooges of the GOP and playing their game which is rigged and will get us nowhere. And let’s not play the “Democrat” “Liberal” game on this because Barack Obama signed it. John McCain introduced this bill, a majority of Republicans voted for it and the Tea Party darling Marco Rubio voted “Yes”. The original Tea Partiers rebelled; they did not appease the British.

Give me a brake on the immigration issue too. If our government and politicians from both parties wanted the flow of immigrants stopped they could do it in and instant. We can fight armies and nations overseas but we can’t even win a simple battle at home. Can’t you see that it is all rigged, that they don’t want to stop it and want to distract us and entertain us on this issue to keep our minds away from the real problems and issues.

WAKE UP AMERICA AND GET OUT OF THIS TRANCE YOU HAVE BEEN PUT UNDER!

Be awakened by those who have and mind not those who want to keep you there.
