MEDICAID EXPANSION
“Scott shocked the political world Wednesday when he announced he wanted  Florida to expand its Medicaid program under the Affordable Care Act.  The move expands the program to an estimated 900,000 additional  residents.
Ultimately, the Legislature has to sign-off on Medicaid expansion, which could prove to be a big hurdle.
“I am personally skeptical that this inflexible law will improve the  quality of health care in our state and ensure our long-term financial  stability,” House Speaker Will Weatherford, R-Wesley Chapel, said in a  statement.
Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, said he wants to wait to hear input  from legislative panels tasked with recommending how to implement the  health care law.
Scott’s announcement immediately sparked outrage from many of the Tea Party  groups that had supported him and stirred more political intrigue in  halls of the Capitol.
In a rare move, other statewide Republican elected officials blasted the decision.
“I am concerned about the consequences of greater federal control over  health care and a major expansion of government; nonetheless, at least  Florida’s lawsuit has given each state a choice,” said Attorney General  Pam Bondi in a statement.”

Even though Governor Scott has stated that he now supports the Medicaid expansion, it still takes the FL House and the FL Senate’s approval.  It seems both our Senate President, Sen. Gaetz and House Speaker Weatherford are very skeptical of this expansion.

Please contact both of them as well as the Representative and Senator for your district. The best chance of stopping this seems to be the Florida House.

A few talking points you might use:

States that expanded Medicaid early are now facing huge budget shortfalls.

The Federal government can’t pay its bills and the FL taxpayers will be left paying for this.

A majority of Floridians are against implementing any portion of Obamacare.
